Stan Carter will get a new battle-axe wife in forthcoming EastEnders scenes.

The family's eldest member is to get a rude awakening when Sylvie Carter arrives later this week on Albert Square.

Sylvie - mother to Shirley Carter and sister to Aunt Babe - is known to viewers to have abandoned the family, but returns in the hopes of gaining their help.

The Daily Mirror was told by a source from the BBC One soap: "Although she's manipulative and used to getting her own way, Sylvie is forced to seek help from the family she abandoned years ago.

"However, the Walford welcome will be anything but warm."

Dominic Treadwell-Collins, executive producer said: "Watching Linda Marlowe, Annette Badland, Ann Mitchell and Timothy West going for it on screen is going to be electric."

Sylvia's arrival will likely spark revelations in the Square that Shirley is actually Mick Carter's mother rather than his sister, as he currently believes.
