Sally Wainwright - the writer of Happy Valley - thinks that Coronation Street has too many episodes per week.
She believes that the ITV soap is now at risk of "ravaging" some of its longest-standing characters because of the growing number of episodes.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper she explained: "When you are going out that many times you do end up having to have people buried under the patio and people driving cars into canals rather than finding the drama in the trials of day-to-day life."
The writer also admitted she hasn't been tuning into the show since she left her role on the production team because she's now unable to access "inside information".
"I haven't watched 'Corrie' since I left because I couldn't stand not knowing what happened, I wanted inside information that I no longer had."
Meanwhile, Sally revealed that she is now "feeling the pressure" about writing Happy Valley's second season, having already penned half of it.
"It's the first time I've felt pressure actually writing the second series of 'Happy Valley', because the first series was massively successful in a way I haven't experienced before.
"I've written three of the six episodes so far. I think it's really good. The test will be writing the last three episodes, and it's about maintaining that quality throughout the whole series. You need a clear focus so the audience feel that they're in good hands. It's scary but great."
