The decision was announced today by showbosses who told Digital Spy: "Ricky Norwood has been suspended from the show for a period of two months with immediate effect.
In addition, Ricky would like to apologise to EastEnders' viewers for any offence caused and for bringing the show into disrepute."
The reports came on Sunday March 30 that he performed a sex act during a Skype video chat whilst smoking cannabis, in a clip that was filmed recently by a woman the actor had met online.
However, the video itself has not been leaked or put online.
Norwood won in 2011 the Most Popular Newcomer prize at the NTA's for his portrayal of his EastEnders character Arthur 'Fatboy' Chubbs.
Suspending him from the show came after he met with show bosses yesterday (March 31) for talks.
