'Coronation Street' star Marc Baylis admits he's worried about the reaction from soap fans after his character was last night seen pushing Tina McIntyre off a balcony.
The actor, who plays Rob Donovan, was seen in dramatic scenes throwing Tina from the builders' yard balcony after she threatened to reveal his secrets and ruin his sister Carla's marriage to Peter Barlow, after the two started having an affair, and Marc claims he might have to go to work in a disguise to hide from fans.
He told The Sun newspaper: "I think I will swim into work across the canal so no one can see me!
"I will just have to take all the flack - and all the eggs - on the chin. Or I will have to find new techniques to hide away."
This week, viewers will see Tina battle for her life in intensive care but fans have known for months that the brunette beauty, played by Michelle Keegan, was going to be killed off in the ITV soap, although the killer's identity has been kept a secret and Marc is now "massively relieved" it's out in the open.
He said: "We had been talking about the storyline since October. It has been a lot of hard work keeping my lips tightly sealed."
Although viewers know Rob is responsible for the crime, they won't see him arrested for the attack straight away as the criminal tries to pin it on someone else.
Marc said: "Rob is not a stupid man so he knows where to point the finger, where to play the innocent and where to play different cards that will protect him and cast shadows on to other characters."
However, Rob didn't plan the murder and ends up staging a break-in at Tina's flat to cover his tracks as the emotional effects of what he has done take their toll.
Marc said: "There are a lot of twists afterwards. It pulls him closer to his roots. Rob becomes slightly more family-orientated. It is not just, 'He is a killer now.'
"We see how he deals with it psychologically. There is a lot of good stuff and a lot of good twists."
