Les Dennis says 'Coronation Street' has been integral in helping him lose a stone in weight.
The 60-year-old comedian, who recently joined the soap as burglar Michael Rodwell, has credited going on the 5:2 diet for the role with helping him shed the extra pounds.
Under the diet, slimmers are able to eat normally five days a week, but limit yourself to 500 calories on two 'fast' days.
Les said: "I've got more energy now. You just find that you don't need to eat as much. It really does work for me and I'd like to lose a bit more."
Les is enjoying his stint on 'Corrie' and says his schedule has allowed him to spend more time with his family and plan much-needed family getaways.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Now I am in 'Corrie', it means I get to see the family every night and we can plan holidays. It's brilliant."
Les' character Michael first appeared in Weatherfield in March when he robbed Gail McIntyre's house.
He will be seen again this Friday (07.06.14) as Gail (Helen Worth) visits him in prison and he apologises for the break-in.
The actor said: "He is a guy down on is luck and it triggers something in Gail to realise that he is a nice person."
