Helen Worth is worried about getting the axe on 'Coronation Street'.
Although the 64-year-old actress has been an integral member of the cast of the ITV soap since joining in 1974, Helen admitted that recent behind-the-scenes changes have made her fear for the future of her character Gail Platt.
Speaking to Daily Star Sunday about new producer Kate Oates, she said: "You do get nervous. It's new beginnings. You're in their hands.
"You just keep your fingers crossed and hope they want the character to continue."
Despite her fears, Helen is hopeful that Gail won't be going anywhere as she believes the soap needs older characters in order to remain realistic.
She explained: "In real life there are older people. So they have to be represented on the show.
"In fact they are a very important part of our programme. I've no idea how long I'll be on the show. Let's just see."
Helen has enjoyed some juicy storylines over the years thanks to Gail's numerous marriages, including one to murderer Richard Hillman and the actress is thrilled that she has had such great material to work with.
She said: "I'm perfectly happy with whatever they give me. They've looked after me for 42 years so I leave it all in the safe hands of the writers.
"I work with such wonderful people. As long as I'm working with those people I'm happy."
