'Emmerdale' star Gaynor Faye is shocked that fans love her character's nemesis.
The 43-year-old actress stars as Megan Macey in the ITV soap and has been feuding with her brother Declan's (Jason Merrells) wife Charity (Emma Atkins) for the past year, in storylines including Charity having an abortion and claiming that Megan caused her to have a miscarriage.
Quizzed on what kind of reaction she gets from fans, Gaynor said: "I'm shocked that the audience know what Charity has done yet they still come up to me and tell me to leave her alone! That's a bit weird. How can they be so pro Charity given everything she's done?"
The former 'Coronation Street' star confessed she thinks Charity's likeability is down to Emma's skills as an actor, and compared it to the way in which 'Emmerdale' fans love the character Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley).
Speaking to SoapSquawk.co.uk, she added: "That's testament to Emma's work and Charity as a character that she is so well loved. No matter what she does she's still loved, it's the same with Cain, he's a baddie but people love him."
Meanwhile, Gaynor admits that despite not always being a favourite with the fans, she loves being able to challenge Emma's character.
She explained: "It's fantastic playing a character like Megan because you get to say what you want and get away with it.
"How many times would you love to go up to someone and speak your mind without getting punched in the face? It's brilliant."
