Digital Spy have today confirmed that Liam Butcher will be saying goodbye to Albert Square in a new summer storyline.
Written out later this year, details surrounding the exit are still being kept secret. James Forde has been in the role of Liam since 2008 but sparked speculation he could leave the show last week, when he hinted at the news on Twitter.
An EastEnders spokesperson said to Digital Spy: "We can confirm James Forde will be leaving EastEnders later this year. We wish him all the best for the future."
One of Liam's biggest storylines aired in 2013, when he left his mother Bianca confused and heartbroken by joining a gang and putting himself and his family in danger.
The storyline went on to see bosses of the soap team up with Comic Relief to raise awareness about the issue of teen involvement in gangs.
Meanwhile recent storyline has seen Liam and Cindy Williams develop romantically following the arrival of her baby daughter Beth.
