Dominic Treadwell-Collins has admitted to changing the identity of Lucy Beale's killer.
The EastEnders producer reveals that though he and the writers had decided on a character who would become the culprit, the storyline has been re-thought and the blame now lies with another person.
Dominic said to Inside Soap: “When we first talked about the story, there was one killer – but before we even put pen to paper, something didn’t fit right about that person.
"It was clever and it was fine, but it didn’t come from the heart.
"So myself, Sharon Batten (Series Producer) Alex Lamb (Story Producer) Manpreet Dosanjh (Script Producer) locked ourselves away in a hotel room and we came up with an alternative.
"It’s emotionally right, true and very exciting. From that moment, it’s been locked in and we would not cheat the audience by changing it now.”
Viewers will still have to wait to find out just who did murder Lucy however, as the reveal won't come until February.
He did give a hint that we'll know more at New Year, however.
"On New Year's Day, the list of suspects will become much, much smaller."
