'Coronation Street' bosses are to introduce a new disabled character in coming months.
The production team have put out a public casting call to find the right actor to portray Howie who will first be seen in Weatherfield in the autumn.
'Coronation Street' casting director Janet Hampson wrote on her Twitter account: "Breakdown for our new disabled @itvcorrie character HOWIE is now out, pls spread word far & wide & RT, thanks ... NB: Howie is MALE, WHITE & DISABLED!! I'm deleting emails that don't match. (sic)"
Details on the character are scarce but he will be a "cheeky chappy" and will be connected to a current 'Corrie' resident.
A spokesperson for the show told the Manchester Evening News newspaper: "Howie is a new disabled character that is being written into storylines starting on screen in the autumn.
"He will be connected to a current cast member, although that's all we can say at this stage."
Auditions for the part will take part over the next several weeks.
'Coronation Street' currently has one disabled character, wheelchair bound Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston) who has been in the programme for four years.
