The 50-year-old actress is joining the BBC One soap as Kush's mother Carmel and has revealed her own daughter Bianca, 14, is impressed with her new status as a soap star.

Bonnie said: "I think it's sort of cool. Well it depends, I'm probably not cool at all am I because it's cool being in the show and knowing all of the other people, although she was impressed with seeing little Ant & Dec the other night [at the British Soap Awards] who were dancing on the floor until about one o'clock in the morning."

Bonnie confessed, however, that some of the younger soap actors weren't as happy to meet her as she was them.

She told ITV's 'This Morning': "I went up to the little girl in Emmerdale, and I actually said to her - she was very young, she was five or something - and I said, 'Oh I started when I was six', and she said, 'No I was five', and I went, 'Ooh sorry love, I'm a bit old then."

The former 'Doctor Who' actress is also looking forward to shooting more scenes with her former pantomime co-star Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale.

She added: "I've only done one scene with Adam so far and it's just fascinating."
