Phil learns Ben's been freed from jail / Credit: BBCDigital Spy have confirmed that EastEnders bosses are hoping to soon reintroduce the character of Ben Mitchell.
Currently in the process of looking to recast the role, Ben will return to the screen later this year.
The character will go in a new direction, after last being seen in 2012 handing himself into the police for murdering Heather Trott.
Since then he's been serving time behind bars, but in Tuesday May 13's episode of EastEnders, Phil was stunned to hear his son had been released a month prior.
Coming back to the Square will see Ben have to deal with the residents he left behind including friends of Heather, and Lola Pearce - the mother of his daughter Lexi.
