Sian Reeves was terrified she would never work again.
"It could've been worse- I might have been paralysed - but I was flat on my back for the best part of a year.
The 'Emmerdale' newcomer - who plays Sally Spode in the ITV soap - had a terrible accident when she was rehearsing for a play two years ago and was lucky she didn't end up paralysed.
Sian - who is dating drummer Jeremy Campbell - said: "Someone had left a trapdoor open backstage. I fell down it on to a ladder, and punctured my lung and crushed my upper rib cage.
"It could've been worse- I might have been paralysed - but I was flat on my back for the best part of a year. I was a nightmare to live with, but it's brought my partner Jeremy and I closer together. Actually, I hope he might pop the question."
The former 'Cutting It' star is enjoying every moment of working on the northern soap as it has such a family feel.
She told Britain's Inside Soap magazine: "Everyone has been so friendly, and I really love working in the north. It's got the feel of an old repertory company - you've got Shirley Stelfox (Edna), who's been in the business for 50 years, and Freddie Jones (Sandy).
"As well as everyone at 'Emmerdale' being so warm and easy to get to know, they've also been really kind, because it's been quite different and difficult for me. I've never done anything like this before, where you have to learn so much so quickly."
