Cassie’s accident is still talk of the town, but by now there seems to be a rush of people wanting either to claim responsibility or point the finger of blame in someone else’s direction. While poor Cassie panics about having to appear before the magistrate the following week, Drew finds himself burdened with the guilt of having supplied the underage Simon with alcohol for the party – a mistake over which he’s now lost his job – and Ric, rather than shoulder any responsibility at all, concentrates his efforts on blaming VIv for her part in giving Mattie reason to go Flat Rock in the first place. Needless to say, with the woman in question now offering Drew some extra cash in exchange for running some errands, things are about to get a whole lot more complicated.Star-crossed loversMeanwhile, Martha and Michael are packing up their belongings ahead of their leaving the Bay, and have arranged to meet friends for an informal get-together at the diner before they go – but it’s not just Sam desperate to see that Jack’s invitation never reaches him. As Jack juggles his workload with trying to find the missing wedding rings, Tony does his best to keep quiet about the celebrations – even if, with Annie’s inadvertently revealing all, it does prove to have been a wasted effort. Despite the tip-off, Martha is devastated when the party later gets underway and Jack is nowhere to be found; before he’s even managed to set foot outside his front door, Michael has called a halt to his plans – just as Sam does her bit by deleting Martha’s goodbye message from his answer phone – leaving him to wallow in self-pity as the tearful former love of his life leaves town.Poison penElsewhere, while the attempted attack on Martha has left the hospital keen to step up measures to protect its staff, Rachel and Gloria are stunned to discover that the culprit appears to be one step ahead. After discovering a parka jacket mysteriously dumped in the linen skips, they recall Martha’s description of the attacker’s clothing and immediately call the police, keeping the evidence safely guarded under lock and key. But when they return to the supply cupboard with Jack in tow, their prized find has vanished, leaving Rachel in no doubt that the attacker must be getting a little too close for comfort. Later, as she returns to her car, things step up a pace when she finds herself the recipient of a threatening note plastered to her windscreen. ‘You are being watched,’ it warns.
