Martha’s screams alert security to the commotion in the hospital car park, turning the tables on the hooded figure as he’s forced to make a frantic getaway. It’s once Martha has been given the all clear by Rachel that attentions turn to a decidedly guilty-looking Sam: how could she have let her personal issues get in the way of someone’s safety? While Rachel and Martha may be brief about making their feelings known, for Jack it’s something that needs debating long into the night. His reaction makes Sam certain only of the fact that her fiancé still holds a torch for Martha; taking her cue from Luc’s ill-timed return from writing camp, she leaves for the diner in search of a shoulder to cry on.Life's a picnicMeanwhile, Ric and Matilda are trying their best to repair their relationship – but their first attempt, a jointly prepared meal, fails miserably when topics for conversation prove thin on the ground. To make up for it, Mattie decides to surprise Ric with a picnic the following day, blissfully unaware that Ric is also busy putting together his hamper of – albeit slightly less sophisticated – delights. It may come as suitable amusement for Luc, aware of the blunder from the get-go, and be enough for the two of them to finally realise that they’re trying too hard, but it’s also clear that it’s going to take time to get back to the way things were. Will they be able to turn things around? Cold feet

Out of sheer desperation, a worried Sam confides in Reverend Hall about the day’s events. Sympathetic to her cause, he decides it’s time to visit Jack with an ultimatum: unless he can transform his behaviour into that befitting a groom, he’ll withdraw his consent to marry.

A heated argument may see Hall temporarily dismissed from his duties, but it’s clear that the not-so-happy couple have something far more serious than an upset reverend to worry about: as Jack later confesses to his bride-to-be, he’s felt differently since leaving hospital – and he’s not sure whether it’s a case of cold feet or something more.

Refusing to go down the same road as Brad and Sally, Sam insists that Jack takes twenty-four hours to think things through; if he doesn’t show up at the wedding rehearsal the following day, she’ll know what it means. Will a late-night kiss with Martha help him make up his mind?
