When Lewis turns up on her doorstep with a bottle of wine, Rachel stumbles her way through telling him her news – but it’s soon apparent that, despite his earlier suggestion of them moving in together, fatherhood is one commitment too far. Shocked, he remains rooted to the spot, breaking his silence only to ask the least appropriate of questions – ‘Are you sure it’s mine?’ – before taking the response as his cue to leave. Matters fail to improve when, making his exit, Jack accidentally hits Scruffy with his car; he and Michael rush the dog to the vet’s, leaving Martha to guard the dress – which she can’t resist trying on for size.
