It’s the day of Geoff’s big football game; if he can prove himself to the talent scout, he could be selected to join the city team. But despite it having the makings of a great day, events soon take an unexpected turn. Having been relying on his grandfather’s support at the match, Geoff is devastated when an equally disappointed Bruce returns from the cattle market to announce that, with the stock due to arrive earlier than expected, he needs to build a holding pen before the next morning. After a touching speech from Bruce, Geoff goes ahead and plays, but it’s clear that his mind isn’t on the game – and it doesn’t escape notice. Can he turn things around?Toeing the line?Meanwhile, Drew’s been left in charge of the Surf Club and, having failed to rid the place of a suspected drug dealer, calls the cops for help. When Jack shows up with George, it’s clear that the culprit’s expecting an easy ride; as he admits when he later tries to broker a deal with Jack, he’s paid George $500 for a let-off in the past. Little does Jack know that his promise of keeping quiet about the revelation is enough for his colleague to realise that he may just have the perfect setup in his new post. ‘I think I’ve got our third string. His name’s Jack Holden,’ George whispers down the phone to his mystery co-conspirator. But what’s he planning?Things fall apart

As a favour to Bruce, Jonah revisits the farm to help build the pen but quickly realises that they’re going to need more hands on deck. A return trip to the Surf Club bags them two new recruits, Lucas and Martha (with whom Jonah finally shares a long-awaited kiss), and leaves Bruce free to see the remainder of Geoff’s game.

As Tony suspected, Geoff seeing his grandfather’s face in the crowd is all he needs to pick up the pace, and he’s soon managed to play his way to victory. But the day’s celebrations are about to be brought to a heartbreaking end. Having returned home beaming with pride over his grandchildren’s successes, Bruce collapses and, his clutching his treasured family photo, passes away.
