“The stench is enough to bring tears to your eyes,” Colleen says by way of a greeting, as she flounces through Brad and Sally’s house. Yes, it’s that dreaded septic tank again – only, this time it’s going to take $20 000 to fix the problem and give the caravan park a literal breath of fresh air. Of course, that kind of money makes quite the dent on a wedding budget, giving Sally the perfect opportunity to turn things to her advantage. “Well, maybe we have to rethink the timing altogether?” she suggests, her obvious hope once again escaping Brad’s attention. It’s just as well that not everyone’s been blinded by wedding fever; Irene proves herself as a little more intuitive as she, Leah, Alf and – who else – Colleen gossip over the impending big day. “She’s hardly been the blushing bride-to-be lately, has she? Not like when she was marrying Flynn,” she says, prompting Leah to pay Sally a visit and try to get her to open up. “There’s just something that’s making me doubt taking that next step,” Sal confesses, before later admitting her fears over betraying Flynn’s memory; a feeling not altogether unfamiliar to her twice-married friend. Leah could, however, use a lesson in the art of discretion; no sooner has she finished speaking to Sal than she’s making an off-the-cuff remark to Brad about him having nothing to worry about – always a good indication of the truth being somewhat to the contrary. Still, at least it gets the happy couple talking things through; in fact, Sally even seems to have come round to the idea of moving on. “I am committed to marrying you,” she promises a relieved Brad. Let’s hope so.Blacklisted“There’s something else I need you to talk about. I’ve chosen a best man,” Brad says to a decidedly worried-looking Rachel. The lucky candidate turns out to be Henk Van Patten, an old friend of his, and someone with whom Rachel is painfully familiar. Making her excuses, she parts ways with Brad and spends the rest of the day trying to track down a phone number for this blast from the past – at the expense of just about everything else. Having come dangerously close to giving Bruce an overdose of medication, Rachel decides it’s time to make the dreaded call and un-invite Henk to the wedding: “I don’t think it’s a good idea that we see each other, so I suggest that you make some sort of excuse as to why you can’t come. I trust you’ll agree that this is the best option. For both of us.” The warning may be clear enough, but will Henk listen? And what’s his history with Rachel?Family tiesGeoff’s rushed to hospital, where Rachel examines the gunshot wound; Bruce all the while interrogating his son over his deceit. Annie, on the other hand, is contemplating a more personal loss. “You killed Harriet and Rosie,” she sobs, conveniently forgetting the inevitable fate of her beloved sheep; they weren’t exactly Bruce’s pets, after all. Still, Bruce being in no fit state to provide any comfort, Annie invites Luc and Tony to the hospital to pay Geoff a visit – and they’re in for quite a welcome. “You’ve had your stickybeak; you can go now,” Bruce snaps, the two of them barely having set foot inside Geoff’s room. But, as Bruce goes on to list reasons why Tony should consider himself responsible for his grandson’s fate, it soon becomes clear that something’s not quite right; breaking off mid-sentence, Bruce clutches his chest. ”I think your grandfather’s having another heart attack,” Rachel tells a shocked Annie and Geoff, as she rushes to his aid. (At this point, she seems to have forgotten that neither of them was aware of his condition in the first place.) Although it proves to have been a false alarm, Rachel makes her instructions quite clear when Geoff later goes to pay Bruce a visit: they need to stay calm. While there is, indeed, a first time for everything, this isn’t one of them. As soon as Geoff brings up the matter of his parents’ Will, the good doctor’s orders are swiftly forgotten – and any hope Geoff had of salvaging their relationship is lost when Bruce tells him he's not welcome back on the farm. Utterly alone, Geoff has no choice but to turn up on Tony's doorstep asking for help: "I've got nowhere else to go."
