After a disastrous attempt at a date, Martha wakes to find herself in a barn, being scrutinised by the two understandably surprised-looking teens whose residence it is. She manages to convince them to give her a lift to the Bay, where they accept a drink at the diner by way of thanks. Unfortunately, their unlicensed vehicle attracts Jack's attention, prompting a confrontation with Martha that sees her declare the "sixteen-year-old farm boy" – or Geoff, as he's more commonly known – as more of a gentleman than him. And what of these newcomers? Well, other than their apparent well-mannered and charitable ways, and the fact of their relationship to the gun-wielding farmer who’s always on alert to ward off picnic-munching trespassers from his land, much about the siblings remains a mystery – and despite Alf and Sally's speculation, Geoff seems determined to keep it that way…Surprise, surprise! In an effort to make up for Martha’s Blair Witch Picnic experience, Jack decides it's time to surprise her with something a little more special. It seems foolproof enough: ask Alf for the key to Martha's place, leave her a few gifts – playing it safe with flowers, chocolates and a fruit basket – and just wait for her to wave the white flag. But alas, with Martha a fan of neither gerberas nor white chocolate, it appears the plan was doomed from the start. She unloads the offerings onto her good Samaritans, before bemoaning to Sally that she's tired of coming second to Jack's work, ready to kick even his offer of friendship to the curb: "He didn’t know how to be my husband; I don’t think he knows how to be my friend either."Careless whisperWhen the cat's away, the mice will play – not such a good idea if the cat hasn't actually strayed that far, of course, as Rachel is unfortunate enough to discover when, Archie having been rushed into hospital, her explanation to Hugh of Kit's tendency to "hit the panic button at the drop of a hat" is overheard by the subject.

Yes, if you’re going to accuse your love rival of anything behind her back – even if only to say that she’s an overprotective mother – it's probably best to make sure you’re out of earshot. Suitably embarrassed, Kit takes Archie home; but it's not long before his condition has worsened and he's readmitted. This time, however, Rachel's not having Hugh cloud her judgement.

"If you want to help, you can start by keeping whatever happened between us out of our professional relationship," she snaps. Little does she know that, with Hugh about to jet off to South Africa for a fellowship placement, that shouldn’t be a problem for too much longer…
