When Matilda confronts Ric about what she saw on the beach, he insists that it’s not what she thinks, explaining it away as nothing more than Viv’s way of thanking him for organising her birthday. While she finds this hard to accept, especially given the fact of his being particularly cagey over the reason for their meeting in the first place, the offer of a romantic overnight stay at The Sands is enough to win her over – until, that is, she finds a welcome note in their room for a Mr and Mrs Anderson. Now aware that Viv has paid for their getaway, Mattie is quick to dismiss Ric’s grand gesture as cheap and tacky, and she storms off to confront the woman herself – who interprets it as an invitation to take her place at the resort (also the location of choice for a meeting between Dan and a mystery woman named Gwen). Drew’s subsequent arrival may spoil any chance she had of getting cosy with the object of her affections, but is Ric beginning to have doubts about his relationship with Mattie?Playing it safeMeanwhile, still dwelling on the words of her counsellor, Sally feels reassured when a visit to Brad’s sees him explaining how the latest incident involving Tam and Heather kept him away from their earlier session. Unfortunately, it looks like the act of her arranging a follow-up appointment for the next day may have been a little premature. As Sally tries to make small-talk about her family, expressing her concerns that Alf is choosing the safe option by refusing to re-apply for his driving licence, Brad can’t help but go on the defensive, insisting that she doesn’t always know best. Although he later apologises and insists that they stay friends, it’s clear that Sally’s dreams of a happy future with her former fiancé will never become a reality. Their chat has made Brad realise that Sally is looking for what’s comfortable, not what’s right: she left him at the altar because something was missing from their relationship; if they get back together, it still will be.
