For weeks leading up to one of this year’s big soap weddings, Emmerdale viewers were screaming at their screens, begging Rhona Goskirk to get away from her abusive partner Pierce Harris. Unfortunately, the two went ahead with their wedding, only for Pierce to rape his new wife on their wedding day before she fled back to the village and left him behind.

Next week’s episodes however will see actor Jonathan Wrather make his return as Pierce, with the actor teasing some big surprises in the upcoming storylines.
He explained: “Pier’s mother Martha has been introduced and she’s harbouring some secret, but we don’t know to what extent.
“She’s coming back into the show and she is so charming and so nice. There’s something slightly mysterious about it. We don’t know what her secret is yet. It could be something very big – it could be something similar he’s done in the past, or it could be something else. So do we believe what Martha said, or do we believe Pierce?”
Martha’s first appearance came all the way back in April, when the rapist’s mother hinted in a conversation with Rhona about Pierce’s shady and problematic past. Since then however, no further clues have been given as to what exactly she was talking about.
Fortunately, it looks like we’ll be privy to the information sooner rather than later, with some massive twists and turns still to come.
Emmerdale continues weeknights on ITV at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
