Denise Black is returning to Emmerdale on ITV as Joanie, after last being seen taking custody of her adopted grandson Kyle and returning to her life in Leeds with the boy. It transpired when Kyle's mother Amy Wyatt (Chelsea Halfpenny) went on the run, leaving on a ferry.
Now down on her luck, Joanie is living in temporary housing and struggling to bring her adopted grandson up. There's nobody else to turn to when Joanie gets in contact with Kyle's real father Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) in the hopes of gaining some cash for a flat deposit, safe in the knowledge that Cain wouldn't ever want Kyle in his life.
Suddenly mugged after Cain's hand-out however, Joanie's at rock bottom and knows that Kyle could be taken away at any moment as she doesn't have a proper roof over their heads.
Desperate, Joanie returns to Emmerdale village leaving Cain furious, but could it be the Dingle family unit who offer her the help she needs when all is said and done?
Chatting about her role, Denise said: "I am very excited to be coming back to Emmerdale. It's a lovely show to work on and I'm well set for Joanie's revival. I bet she has learned a thing or two since we last saw her. Is she still a single grandma? Has she changed? How is Kyle? I can't wait to find out."
Denise will return to screens in episodes aired from Wednesday, June 17.
