Nina Wadia wants her job back on Eastenders.

The 44-year-old actress - who played Zainab Masood - left the show in February because she wanted to return to comedy, but she admits she misses the soap and wouldn't mind going back for "a bit".

She said: "I miss 'EastEnders' a lot, but after doing it for five and a half years it was time for me to go back to comedy and have a bit of a change. But if they asked me I would love to go back."

Zainab - who is still referenced in the programme - turned her back on Albert Square to move to Pakistan, but Nina admits she's glad bosses didn't decide to kill her character off.

She explained: "I asked to be killed off, because I wanted a big story end.

"But they didn't want to kill the character which was much loved by the audience. They didn't want me to go."

Although Nina would like to see her alter-ego step back onto the streets of Walford in the future, she insists her decision to leave has really benefited her children.

Speaking to the Daily Star newspaper, she explained: "My life hugely changed since I've left. First I felt that I have got my life back a little bit, because 'EastEnders' has a very gruelling schedule; it's very hard especially with kids.

"I've never had a whole summer off before because of 'EastEnders', and now I had the whole summer with my kids.

"So I've had a very good year when I've done funny projects and I had lots of time with my children as well. I can see a huge difference in terms of being around them."
