The past couple of weeks on EastEnders have without a doubt been some of the most dramatic the residents of Albert Square have ever seen. Max Branning’s (Jake Wood) plot to take over the Square and everything that makes it up with the Willmott-Brown family failed, with Max tossed aside by the patriarch of the clan, James Willmott-Brown (William Boyde) after using him for financial gain.
Now, Christmas is looking anything but festive for Max and the rest of the Branning family, with actor Jake Wood recently chatting about what will be going down.
Speaking with The Sun, the actor teased: “Max goes on a murderous, psychotic bender. It is all coming to a head and hopefully, in years to come, it will be seen as one of the best and most iconic Christmas episodes ever.”
He continued: “When I was reading the Christmas scripts the only way I could make sense of what Max was doing was that he was having a psychotic episode. He’s reached pretty much rock bottom and he’s a dangerous man, because he has convinced himself that he has absolutely nothing to lose. He’s unhinged. To my mind, this is Max at his lowest ebb – and he’s capable of murder, 100 per cent.”
The actor also said that this may well be the end of the line for his character, but if that is the case “then so be it. It’s been a great story.”
What we do know about the explosive Christmas period on the Square, is that it will see both of Max’s daughters Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) and Abi Branning (Lorna Fitzgerald) leave the soap. Whether that’s with their lives or not however, remains to be seen.
EastEnders continues throughout the week on BBC One.
