EastEnders actor Declan Bennett is to leave EastEnders, it's been revealed. In the role of Charlie Cotton, Bennett is now working on his final scenes after show bosses decided they'd write the character out of the series.
Speaking to Digital Spy, an EastEnders spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Declan Bennett will be leaving EastEnders. We wish him all the best for the future."
Bennett's already been spotted filming his final scenes at a train station, with his on-screen child in hand and Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simons) by his side - could this mean she's leaving with him?
Only in the role since 2014, Charlie was introduced as Dot Branning's grandson that she never knew existed, but it wasn't long before secrets surrounding his father Nick Cotton saw him caught up in a mysterious storyline.
Falling for Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) after he started to feel at home on the Square, the pair quickly tied the knot and have a baby son together, but he also began to develop feelings for Ronnie's sister Roxy.
The pair grew close whilst Ronnie lay unresponsive in a coma following a huge car accident at the start of 2015. Putting aside their feelings for now, the tension and storyline still seems unresolved.
Charlie's final scenes will air on EastEnders in early autumn.
