Danny Dyer shocked us all when it was announced he'd be joining Albert Square as a brand new character to join Shirley Carter's family, Mick Carter.
However, since his arrival he's won the scores of viewers over and breathed some new life into a show and soap that was failing to deliver on so many levels, and dangerously close to becoming substandard to many of the years that had passed.
We've taken a look at just what it is about this prime piece of British beef we love, and found it a struggle to whittle down our list to just five...
1) His character Mick is surprisingly nice
Mick Carter was suspected to be a brand new rough type of character who viewers would love to hate, with a personality as strong as stone and lacking of emotions. So, it was pleasantly surprising when we discovered Mick was nothing like that - supportive to his family and in touch with his emotions, proving it through heartwrenching scenes including one where his son Johnny came out as gay to him.
2) His dog's name
When he arrived he brought with him not just a wife and kids, but a British Bulldog called Lady Di. What's not to love about the pooch's gorgeous face and ridiculous title?
3) His real-life similarities
Danny has admitted that his real-life and persona is much like that of the role he's stepped into with Mick Carter.
"What excited me about this was that Mick is a family man; someone who loves his kids and his wife, a grafter. He's an alpha male, but not in an obvious way; he's not running round with a gun." he said in an interview with TV Times.
4) His good looks and charm
There's just something about Danny that gets people going. Whether it's his rough around the edges looks or his thick Southern accent, he oozes sex appeal and confidence, charming fans and those who he works with.
5) His relationship with his kids
He's willing to do anything to protect his children, which he's proved in some of his first scenes by saving his daughter from marrying a man who she believed she wanted to spend the rest of her life with, and providing a shoulder to lean on for his son who was dealing with emotions and feelings that left him upset and troubled. He's got everything women want in a potential father for their children.
Without a doubt one of the greatest additions to a soap ensemble, we're hoping Danny sticks on the Square for the 20 years he hopes to be around, and we can't wait to see how the new storyline of his second son returning from Afghanistan plays out.
