Hayley Cropper's decision to end her own life won't see Roy Cropper end up in prison.

The much-loved 'Coronation Street' character will fight for her for right-to-die in a bid to end her suffering after being diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, but actress Julie Hesmondhalgh has assured fans that her decision to end her own life won't see her husband behind bars.

She told Inside Soap magazine: "Haley won't do anything to get Roy in trouble; she knows she will have to do it herself, so she needs to be well enough. Hayley's confident that she will know it's the right time and that it will be clear to her."

Roy and Hayley have been locked in a bitter battle of conflicting opinions over her decision to undergo voluntary euthanasia, which is bought to a dramatic climax when she collapses and is rushed to hospital.

Julie explains: "It turns out to just be an infection but it brings home to her the importance of being able to end it all when she can. For Roy though, it seems to prove the opposite - that life is precious and they need to keep hold of every possible moment of it."

Julie will make her dramatic exit from 'Coronation Street' next year after 16 years on the ITV soap.
