The soap has been very kind to me over the years, and it’s been a wonderful experience

Ricky Groves cried when he found out he’d won the part of Garry Hobbs in ‘EastEnders’.

The actor - who has played the loveable mechanic for nine years - was thrilled after landing the role as he knew it would create many opportunities for him as an actor.

He said: "I shed a tear when I got the part of Garry in 2000. It was a dream come true, though being in ‘EastEnders’ is the first rung on the ladder for me."

Ricky, however, leaves the BBC soap later this year and while he’ll be sad to go, he is looking forward to the new challenges that will come his way.

He said: "The soap has been very kind to me over the years, and it’s been a wonderful experience. It’s just that now seems like a good time to trying other things, and I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities which come along."
