The time has come for RuPaul to crown her first ever UK Drag Race Superstar, with the grand finale of RuPaul's Drag Race UK hitting the BBC iPlayer tonight (November 21st, 2019) at 8pm. With three queens battling it out for the crown, each with three maxi challenge wins to their name, any of them could walk away with the chance to film their own digital series in the United States, and enjoy the historic title. Ahead of the big night, we've put together our favourite moments for each of those three queens - Baga Chipz, Divina De Campo and The Vivienne - so you can go back and reminisce about one of the strongest Drag Race seasons to-date...
Baga Chipz
MUCH BETTA!
There are GIFs, mugs, T-shirts and pin badges – Baga Chipz’s “MUCH BETTA!” is THE catchphrase of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 1. It first caught on during her performance in the Downton Draggy maxi challenge, and found life as she continued to say it both in the workroom, and future challenges.
Playing Margaret Thatcher in the Snatch Game
Taking the win alongside her bestie The Vivienne, Baga Chipz also played it political by taking on the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher! Every time she looked at RuPaul with that death stare and huge front teeth, the audience at home cackled with joy. She played the game perfectly, and has a spot in Drag Race herstory thanks to this performance.
Her opening verse to Break Up (Bye Bye)
It’s absolutely NSFW, but it’s a verse we’ve been unable to get out of our heads for three straight weeks now! Baga’s writing on Break Up (Bye Bye) was the best out of all six queens, and even incorporated her brilliant MUCH BETTA! catchphrase.
Divina De Campo
Her Posh on a Penny runway look
When it comes to the most fashionable looks of the season, Divina De Campo is right up at the top with her stunning Posh on a Penny runway showcase. She used extremely tight shopping bags for the trousers of the piece, which allowed her to deliver a real performance on the runway, and not just a look. The red and white umbrella really completed the piece, as well as the Bowie-esque makeup. Bravo!
That whistle tone!
Divina shocked even MNEK with her impressive whistle tone notes during the recording sessions for The Frock Destroyers’ version of Break Up (Bye Bye). Her incredible vocal range is something she’s showcased for years, taking it to the stage of The Voice and of course, showing it off on the stage of clubs up and down the country during her years touring. It may have made our dogs cock their heads at home, but we’ll never get tired of hearing Divina’s high notes!
Red wig and a silver dress? I don’t think.
It may have been an argument in which nobody really came out of it looking great (except Baga for her hilarious reactionary faces), but it’ll certainly go down in Drag Race herstory as one of the tensest and awkward moments in the workroom. Divina got a little ahead of herself, running through her accomplishments because she didn’t feel she was being given the respect she deserved, whilst The Vivienne did herself no favours by claiming Divina was “10 times” the drag queen on the show that she was in the outside world. It’s what came after the argument that made us fall in love with Divina even more, though. She used the argument for humour moving forward, taking it on the chin, and had no trouble in making nice with The Vivienne so that they can continue on with their genuine friendship. Having known each other for over a decade in the real world, it would have been a shame to see it end like this.
The Vivienne
Playing Donald Trump in the Snatch Game
Michelle Visage described it as one of the best Snatch Game character performances in Drag Race herstory, and for good reason. The Vivienne was taking a risk playing Donald Trump, but absolutely nailed everything from his voice, to his dialogue and even actions. The Vivienne was so good, that she’s made sure that anybody else who may want to take on Trump in the Snatch Game in the future, is taking a huge risk. They’ll always be compared to this stellar showing.
Bringing Kim Woodburn to the world of drag
Though she didn’t play her in the Snatch Game, we’ve seen plenty of Kim Woodburn impressions from The Vivienne throughout the season. One of the most memorable came when there was a touch of tension between her and Cheryl Hole, when she used the infamous Celebrity Big Brother star’s “I think you’re a little bitch, actually”, against Cheryl. It felt a tad passive aggressive, but Cheryl took it well, and the ladies now consider one another true sisters, and friends for life.
Ripping off her brows
Okay, so this one’s just a funny moment that a lot of people will have actually missed, but for those who caught it, The Vivienne quickly snatching off her boy brows when asked to get into quick drag was one of the most hilarious pieces of television this year!
Whoever takes home the title and prize in tonight’s show will be deserving. We can’t wait to see the ladies compete in their final challenge.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK is available to stream exclusively on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
