Whether you've seen him in Another Earth, Life on Mars, Law & Order or The Walking Dead, Robin Lord Taylor has never had a role which has shown him in such a brilliant light as Gotham's Oswald Cobblepot, otherwise known as Penguin.
Portraying perfectly the young 'big boss' wannabe, he has a unique charisma which he brings to the character in spades, managing to scare yet captivate with his unhinged personality and sadistic ways.
Through every twist and turn we realise just how intelligent Oswald truly is, manouevering his way dangerously but perfectly throughout the sparring Gotham gangs, hoping to one day take them all down himself and manage the city's crime syndicate. Huge ambitions for someone who doesn't seem to have a leg to stand on from the get-go, but as episodes progress we realise he could be closer to his dream than anyone would ever guess.
Undeniably one of, if not THE most interesting character in the show, Robin looks fantastic when transformed into Penguin, wearing a prosthetic nose and Martin Greenfield-tailored suits - the man who makes all of the suits for Barack Obama, America's President.
It's quite obvious that Robin has done his research in preparation of taking on the biggest role in his career. He brings the comic-book side of Cobblepot to the forefront - something that really shouldn't work on television, but surprisingly does so, incredibly well.
Big fans are impressed, and rightly so. Let's hope that the show writers continue giving Penguin the spotlight he so deserves.
Honk honk.
