Andrea Faustini reportedly suffered a meltdown backstage at The X Factor on Sunday night.
The Italian singer is currently favourite to win the show, and despite being put through to this weekend's second live round, he broke down in tears because he had no friends or family to celebrate with.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Despite going through, after the show Andrea was distraught, sobbing in a corner of the studio.
"Emotions were obviously running high and family and friends are so important on a show like this. So he was painfully aware he didn't have anyone there.
"It's no reflection on him personally because he's a lovely guy, just the fact he hasn't been in this country very long."
Andrea's parents had initially flown over for the Saturday night show to hear his rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Earth Song', but had to return home before the results on Sunday.
His fellow contestants are now all said to have chipped in and donated £10 each for a trip to Italy after Andrea admitted he couldn't fund it himself.
"It was a lovely gesture and proves how much they all like him." the source added.
Meanwhile, a number of acts including Lola Saunders, Ben Haenow and Jake Quickenden have been told they have to rest their voices after falling ill.
A source explained: "Everyone seems to be getting ill. It is a real worry. There are so many contestants on voice rest, but hopefully that will mean they are well enough for the show."
