The BBC Radio 1 DJ - who has joined the 55-year-old music mogul as a judge on 'The X Factor' - has responded to Simon's claims that he's like a "really friendly dog".

Speaking at the launch of 'The X Factor' at the Picturehouse Central cinema in London yesterday (26.08.15), Nick told BANG Showbiz: "I really like dogs but I don't know if I want to be described as a dog. I think out of all the animals I'd rather be a dog than a cat. Cats are like a**eholes aren't they? So I'd rather be a dog. I'm a big dog lover and I know that he [Simon] loves dogs, he's obsessed with his dogs so really that means he's obsessed with me."

The 31-year-old star - who is pals with One Direction star Harry Styles - also revealed he'd love to do the Judges' Houses stage of the competition at his mum's house in Oldham but doesn't think the 21-year-old heartthrob will be available to join him.

Asked if he'd spoken to Harry recently, Nick said: "I've not no, I've been doing this. [Will he be at your Judges' Houses?] I don't know. I don't think so. I don't think they can because they're on tour, hence the break. I literally got back this week from holiday and I started thinking about it, I've no idea yet. It's still a while away, it's like October.

"I kind of want to do it in Oldham because I think it would be funny. I think it depends what group I get because I think if I get the girls and they're all glamorous, I'm taking them to Oldham. I would love to see my mum making a brew in the background, doing the ironing."

'The X Factor' airs on ITV at 8pm on Saturday (29.08.15).
