Mel B has come to terms with the elimination of her first boy on this year's X Factor live shows, and admits that Jake Quickenden "reached his peak".

The mentor was clearly devastated to lose Jake and though she believes he has gone at the right time, she expects his future is bright.

Speaking on The Xtra Factor she confessed: "Jake reached his peak and that's just the way it is... Jake is Jake, he is only going to go onwards and upwards."

Mel also said that she's "attached" to all of the contestants on the show, especially her boys because they're "like family".

"You get so attached. My boys especially.

"They have my home phone number, my mobile number - they are like my kids, like my family!

"I know it's a competition and someone has to go every week, but it still goes urgh in your heart."

Meanwhile, Jake says he doesn't think he performed his best on the live shows.

"I don't think I've done myself justice on any of the live shows, I can be a lot better than that, and I'll prove that, but I want to get my fingers in all kinds of pies now, work-wise...

"I've done an amazing thing and I've been on such a class journey and I've literally made friends for life."
