Radio 1 DJ and television host Matt Edmondson has been announced today (June 27) to host ITV2's The Xtra Factor, with a huge change in the show's format revealed.
Instead of being pre-recorded up until the live shows, The Xtra Factor will now be going live from its first episode of the new series, bringing viewers instant access to the auditionees and their reactions to the auditions.
Chatting about joining the show, Edmondson joked: "I am unbelievably excited about joining The Xtra Factor this year, not least of all because on my first day Louis Walsh walked into my dressing room topless, unannounced. I regard this as the definition of 'living the dream'."
Currently filming behind-the-scenes during the judge's auditions, further information about Xtra Factor is to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Head of Entertainment at ITV, Siobhan Greene comments: "Matt will bring his unique take on all things X Factor and we can't wait for him to start work on the Xtra Factor this year."
Global Head of Television at Syco, Nigel Hall adds: "Matt is the perfect Xtra Factor host; he brings with him a cheeky and warm humour, not to mention being an accomplished presenter on radio and television. He will bring plenty of fun to what will be an entirely new Xtra Factor."
The X Factor and Xtra Factor will both return later this year in the autumn on ITV and ITV2 respectively.
