Simon Cowell wants a double 'X Factor' elimination every week.
While double eliminations are usually only used on special occasions on the reality TV show, ratings got a bump last week when both Bupsi and Alien Uncovered were axed and now Simon wants two acts to leave every week.
A source told The Sun: "Getting rid of two singers each week keeps jeopardy levels high and enables the show to focus on the most talented singers sooner."
However, 'Xtra Factor' presenter Rochelle Humes admitted: "I am not sure the contestants know yet!"
Only two episodes will feature single eliminations.
The new format comes after ITV's director of comedy and entertainment admitted the recent live Judges' Houses were a change "too far".
Elaine Bedell said attempts to keep the show fresh by having the judges decide what acts to take through to the next stage live on air didn't work in the way they'd hoped.
Speaking at the Broadcast Commissioning Forum, she said: "We embarked on this series wanting some changes. This is one of the issues with long-running shows - you look to them constantly to think how they can be kept on their toes.
"Possibly with 'The X Factor' we went too far with the mix of live TV in the Judges' Houses episode.
"Universally on the production side we felt that it wasn't successful, but now we are back to the live shows that we know and love."
