Cheryl Cole broke down in tears last night (17.10.09) over fears she has "let down" her contestants.
The 'X Factor' judge - who mentors the boys - struggled to control her emotions after she was criticised by Simon Cowell for choosing Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love' for her 16-year-old contestant Lloyd Daniels to perform.
I think you're talented, you're likeable, but you're not being directed properly at the moment
Giving his views on the blonde teenager's performance, Simon said: "I'm going to put the blame with Cheryl. She's not working with you properly, understanding you properly, providing you with the right material to do well.
"I think you're talented, you're likeable, but you're not being directed properly at the moment."
When talent show presenter Dermot O'Leary asked Cheryl how she felt Lloyd had performed, the 26-year-old judge's face crumbled.
She sobbed: "I take full responsibility for the song. I found it really tough this week, it was diva week..." "I feel like I've let him down."
Lloyd jumped off the stage and raced over to comfort his mentor. The pair held hands and hugged as Cheryl mouthed, "I'm sorry."
Once Lloyd returned to the stage, the Girls Aloud star was hugged by Simon.
But the music mogul blasted Cheryl again over her choice of song for Scottish contestant Ricki Loney - who performed an Amy Winehouse number.
Simon said: "I don't think you're being advised properly at the moment."
Cheryl is due to perform on the results show tonight (18.10.09).
This evening's show will also see singing sensation Whitney Houston return to the stage to perform a track from her new album 'I Look to You'.
