Vicky Pattison felt like a "monster" after assaulting two women in a nightclub on a drunken night out in 2013.
The 28-year-old reality star - who recently won 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!' - has admitted her TV career almost ended following the dramatic incident, but Vicky is now "happier than ever" after winning the show and giving her mum a reason to be proud of her.
She said: "I have done things in my past that I'm really not proud of. My ultimate low was getting charged with assault. It was a very dark time for me, but it was the change in me.
"I had to speak to someone after that. My contract with MTV looked like it was going to be terminated, I thought I would have no work and I was losing contracts left, right and centre. I thought my TV career was over and, ultimately, if I got convicted I was facing five years in prison.
"Not to mention I felt horrendous for what I'd done. I felt like a monster and I'm not proud of what I did. I am genuinely remorseful.
"I wish I could change what happened but I can't and that's the moment I knew I had to change my behaviour and my life."
But having won the ITV show, Vicky finally feels proud of herself.
She told The Sun newspaper: "My mum had made no secret of the fact she hated 'Geordie Shore'. I wanted to make her proud. She said, 'Don't have sex in the jungle and don't say the C-word'. I stuck to her rules and look where it's got us - Queen of the jungle.
"When this finally sinks in, I feel like everybody should watch out. I've got so much to look forward to and to having been this well-received for being myself is mind-blowing.
"I wanted to go and challenge people's stereotypes and opinions. People were split before I went in there. One half had no idea who I was and the other thought I was a total k**b.
"So to come out and have 10 million people know who I am and know that the vast majority of them don't think I'm a total k**b is even better."
