Work has been halted on hit American reality gameshow series Survivor, because the post-production crew are embroiled in a labour dispute.
The Motion Picture Editors Guild said on Wednesday August 13, that around 24 Santa Monica-based post-production workers "voted themselves off the job", saying no editorial work at Mark Burnett's Island Post Productions Inc. would resume on the show until a union contract has been agreed to.
Work was underway prior to the dispute on season 29 of the CBS series, which was previously scheduled to air on September 24 - the same night that Big Brother US would be brought to a close.
“This wildly successful program has helped to define the genre of reality television, and editors play a critical role in shaping the show,” Editors Guild President Alan Heim said in a statement posted on the union's website. “They seek the same health benefits, pensions, and basic protections that their counterparts elsewhere in the industry have long enjoyed. After 28 successful seasons and 16 Emmy nominations, that doesn’t seem too much to ask.”
No word yet from Mark Burnett and CBS on when the show will now make its return.
