Simon Webbe was worried that the public would "hate" him after he beat Pixie Lott in a dance-off on Strictly Come Dancing.

The singer and his professional dance partner Kristina Rihanoff found themselves in the bottom two during Sunday night's quarter-finals, and had to compete against Pixie and her dance partner Trent Whiddon.

Judge Craig Revel Horwood opted to save Pixie as did Bruno Tonioli, but Darcey Bussell and head judge Len Goodman decided it would be Simon who stayed on the show.

Now he'll go through to the semi-finals with Caroline Flack, Jake Wood, Frankie Bridge and Mark Wright.

Recalling the shock, Simon told The Sun newspaper: "When I got through, I was ecstatic. It was a massive shock.

"But I've been reading social media and I'm a bit worried everyone's going to hate me because a lot of people thought Pixie was a better dancer and didn't deserve to go.

"But Len is head judge and he chose me. With his trained eye, perhaps he saw something the public didn't. I just want to work hard and try not to let Len down."

Surprisingly he also admitted he thought he would be sent packing before he'd even hit the dancefloor.

"I'd actually accepted that I was probably going home on Saturday morning.

"I told myself that the best times I'd had so far were when I let go and enjoyed it. So I did that. It helped."
