George Shelley narrowly avoided being attacked by a shark when he was just 10 years old.
The Union J hunk - who is currently living in the jungle on 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' - is well prepared for the show because he spent a month living in Costa Rica with his mum and two brothers when he was just a young boy.
George's mum Toni shared: "We have always been a family which has enjoyed being close to nature. I thought it would be a great experience to give the children.
"We went snorkelling and kayaking one day near Hammer Shark Island. We didn't realise it was breeding season and then I saw a shark's fin in the water.
"It only then struck me that I was taking my babies swimming near the sharks."
However, it's not just sharks the 22-year-old star has experience with.
Toni told the Bristol Post newspaper: "There were jaguars prowling in the gardens as well as boa constrictor snakes and howler monkeys.
"We had an African bee nest at the back of the hut and I kept having to tell the children to check their shoes and beds for tarantulas.
"We were walking around in flip flops and having to keep an eye out for scorpions on the ground."
