David was next up for today’s Bushtucker Trial, the camp mates all gather round David to offer moral support.

Joe is the first to go over and say ‘you’re going to be hilarious, I’d love to see your one.’

Having completed two trials, Robert headed over to offer words of encouragement, ‘It’s hard..you’ve just got to kind of block whatever it is. Moving onto the stars’, and continues, ‘The thing is to come back and try, no pressure if you come back with nothing that’s fine’ and asked ‘What are you most scared of?’

David quickly replied ‘claustrophobia.’

I’ve got responsibilities and if we’re going to have a happy camp and happy stay I’m going in’ he continued ‘I wanna do my best for everybody that’s what I’m nervous about.’

When Esther mentioned that his daughters will be watching David broke down in tears and was comforted by Timmy. ‘I didn’t mean to do that to you’ explained Esther ‘I’m an idiot, I just thought it did with Robert, it focuses him.’

As he composed himself, David prepared for the challenge ahead.

Later an apprehensive David arrived at his first Bushtucker Trial. Greeted by Ant and Dec he admitted to the hosts that he was hoping that if he was successful it could ‘unite us’.

Having earlier confessed that he has a fear of the dark, the Trial was explained. David would have to crawl through the entrance and into the tunnels. There were numerous tunnels and hidden within the cracks, crevasses, under water and mud were stars.

Dimly lit in some of the caves and in some tunnels pitch black, David would have to find as many stars in seven minutes.

Asked if he wanted to complete the challenge David said ‘I’ve got responsibilities and if we’re going to have a happy camp and happy stay I’m going in’ he continued ‘I wanna do my best for everybody that’s what I’m nervous about.’

He climbed into the entrance and laid on his back to find the first star. As he put in hand in the first tube, David started to scream as rats came out. Finding the star he continued to scream as the rats crawled next to him. The second tube was nearby and inside this tube were cane toads. Finding the star but still screaming David moved along to find the next tunnel.

Directed by Ant and Dec to turn right, he followed their instructions and soon found his third star. Water immediately filled the tunnel and David was swept into the next tunnel which was contained fish, eels and other jungle critters. Holding his breath he went under the water looking for the fourth star. Screaming and trying to get the confidence, he managed to dip his head under the water and find the star.

He climbed out of the tank and was told by the hosts that five minutes had passed and that he only had two minutes left to find the remaining stars. The next chamber contained no light and David had to feel around to find the star. Joined in the tunnel by rats, spiders and cobwebs, David found his fifth star but run out of time.

As he came out of the tunnel, he had to take deep breaths and said to Ant & Dec ‘It was terrible..absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever done in my life’. When asked what his fellow campmates would say about his win of five meals for camp, he said ‘I was hoping this was going to unite us but I’m not so sure now. There was some horrible stuff there.’
