David and Esther chatted by the pool. "I get remarks all the time about me, about my hair, my vanity," he said.
Esther told him "It’s a ridiculous thing to say but she for some reason every word you said to Nicola she understands as some sort of attack of insult. I should think it but not say it only because she’s bubbling like a pan and any minute it’s going to spill over."
David said "It’s annoying because Timmy started it and I’ve got the brunt of it. Compromise. So you’ve got to compromise your humour then haven’t you?"
Esther: "Or you say it quickly to someone who shares it."
David wanted to return to Camp so as not to give the impression he was avoiding the others. "I don’t believe in running away. So I think we should go back up."
