Boy George "always felt" he belonged on a TV talent show.
The 54-year-old pop star appears as a judge on the new series of 'The Voice' and he has admitted he has wanted to work on such a programme for a long period of time, even though some critics consider it to be uncool.
He said: "I always felt like I should be on one of these types of shows.
"I'm a singer, it's what I've been doing for 30 years. I always wondered why I hadn't got the call to do it earlier.
"I see people getting the job and I think 'I've got more experience than you'. For me, it's like a duck to water."
He admitted, too, that the money on offer to appear as a judge was another attraction of the job.
He told the Star on Sunday newspaper: "Some people may think you're too cool to be doing a reality show like this.
"What do you say to that? I suppose it's a compliment. But being cool doesn't pay the bills."
George said he had received a few offers to star on a TV talent show, but had been waiting for the right opportunity to crop up.
He explained: "I'd had talks with various people and mainly about 'The Voice' and I was approached by Australia and New Zealand but I wanted to do the UK or the American one.
"And then I thought if I was going to do it, it had to be in the UK because I watch the show and I am a fan of the show.
"For me it was a no brainer and I was like 'OK do I want to be on telly every Saturday night for a few months? Yeah OK, I do'."
