The Big Brother UK finale takes place tonight (July 26) on Channel 5, but who should walk away with the crown? Here's our reverse order ranking of those housemates left over...
6) Jackson
For me, Jackson has been a transparent housemate in the way he's played the game. For example, in last night's episode he acted like he was so excited to see the fairground in the backyard, that he had to go out naked to see it before anyone else. He then later stood in the garden on his own, having a conversation with Zoltar the fortune teller. For anyone who didn't catch the episode, Zoltar was an animatronic - not a real person. There have been little moments like this throughout the series from Jackson. Remember when he said he only pushed the button to claim £20,000 from the prize fund during annihilation week, because he wanted to split it between the rest of the housemates as well as himself? He then went on to take £5,000 and a place in the 'rich house' during a task, keeping the entirety of the cash for himself. It bewilders me that Jackson was voted as one of the most memorable housemates by the general public, because for me he'll be forgotten as soon as he walks out of those double doors.
5) Jason
Jason has being a big part of this series, but probably for all of the wrong reasons. He refuses to admit he's a gameplayer despite taking Lateysha out of the house for tactical reasons and, according to ex-housemate Ryan, he studied exactly what it would take to remain under the radar and stay in the house until the final week before entering the game. When Charlie returned to the house this past weekend for a special task, she said that ex-boyfriend Jason had ruined her Big Brother experience. This isn't something that's up for debate, however aggressive Charlie may have been in her pursuit of Jason. The man nominated his ex and that same week she was sent out of the house. If that isn't ruining someone's experience who you're still supposed to hold some shred of love for, I'm not sure what is. He's already got his £20,000 for booting Lateysha out of the door - please don't let him take the rest of the prize fund home...
4) Evelyn
Starting out as one of the quieter housemates, Evelyn has in the past few weeks really come out of her shell and let her affections for Alex be known, no matter what the consequence. All she wants is to be liked, and we saw her have a panic attack during the one week she was up for eviction, after being viciously booed by the baying mob outside. Fortunately for her, she survived that vote and has since, at least for me, swung public opinion. She's been a little led on by Alex so it will be interesting to see her final night edit now that he's out of the house. She's had her share of fun moments and finishing in fourth seems the right placement for her. She's not winner material, but she doesn't deserve to be the first one out, either.
3) Andy
Andy is a housemate I admit I cannot figure out. On one hand I've empathised with him, wondering how awful it must be to live in a house where the majority of your housemates aren't interested in any of the same things or subjects as you. On the other, I see Big Brother as a social experiment forcing you to get along with those you're housed with, and I think Andy could have made more of an effort in that regard throughout the series. Though he denies it, he IS a patronising person, telling Lateysha she has the personality of an acorn and asking Big Brother if they could even spell the word itself. It wouldn't surprise me if Andy won tonight, as he's played the underdog role extremely well and picked up a lot of sympathy from the outside. I'm not wholly convinced Andy has been himself throughout the series, so for me he is not a worthy winner. That's not what Big Brother UK is all about.
2) Hughie
Has anyone in the series this year been any more real than Hughie? He's gone on national television as a member of the travelling community, come out as bisexual and worked his way through weeks of arguments and abuse - the worst of which tarnished his start in the house alongside the nasty Natalie. Battling through and flipping house opinions on their back, he quickly became one of the most-loved and loyal people most of his fellow housemates could rely on. His romance with Ryan was interesting to watch. There's never really been a full-on homosexual romance like this in Big Brother - bar Charlie and Rodrigo - so it was heartwarming to see something that seems so real develop and flourish in front of our eyes. He's given everything to the show - drama, romance, laughs - and should be rewarded for it. If it weren't for our number one housemate, we'd be backing him all the way. However...
1) Jayne
What a woman! Jayne, like Hughie has had to fight against some horrendous forces in the house to make her way to the Big Brother final. She's had iconic Diary Room moments - 'Are you on drugs? ARE YOU F**KING ON DRUGS? WHY DO I WANT TO GO HOME? I want to go home... Because I am BOOOORED S**TLESS!' - and for me will be the most memorable face from the series. She was accused of faking her little pool incident last week during a task, in which she choked after being hit in the helmet by a sponge. It is easily explained away however - the helmet was jerked back and Jayne had a strap around her neck, which could have easily taken the wind out of her given the force the sponge was thrown at. Real or not, it was another of the most memorable moments of the series, many of which 'Jayney' has managed to provide. She's at her best when she goes full Nikki Grahame, with the Big Brother 7/Ultimate Big Brother/Big Brother 15/Big Brother Canada star saying she can't wait to meet Jayne and get a DNA test done! Remaining real and grounded throughout, Jayne's personality and traits hail back to the early days of Big Brother, when people would go into the house for the experience over anything else. If Jayne wins tonight, she'll be the oldest winner in Big Brother history. What an ending to an explosive series that would be...
Catch the finale tonight at 9pm on Channel 5 ahead of Celebrity Big Brother's launch on Thursday, July 28.
