Four years after quitting the reality show that shot her into stardom, Bethenny Frankel is said to be returning to The Real Housewives of New York.

The latest issue of Us Weekly quotes sources who say the star is being brought back as a "last-ditch effort" for the show, which dipped to 1 million viewers during its sixth season.

Bethenny's Skinnygirl empire seems to keep growing and so the show may provide her with the perfect outlet to promote the latest goings on in the franchise, including her latest collaboration with Orville Redenbachers Popcorn.

Of course the Bravo producers will likely be looking for drama with Bethenny's return - she has only recently settled her custody dispute with ex-partner Jason Hoppy and is still embroiled in an ugly legal battle over how assets will be divided.

Patti Stanger - host of Millionaire Matchmaker - is hoping the two will come on her show as she's a "big fan" of the reality star.

A source told Radar Online: "Her skills could also be used for Bethenny's estranged husband, Jason Hoppy too! He would be a great guy to try and match up with a single, successful woman".

If Bethenny does indeed join the cast of New York, she'll appear alongside LuAnn de Lesseps and Ramona Singer - both who she knows from her original series, but who are now in lesser, recurring roles rather than official titles as 'Housewives'.

Sonja Morgan, Heather Thomson, Kristen Taekman and Carole Radziwill are all scheduled to return as official 'Housewives'. Aviva Drescher will not make a comeback.
