Unsurprisingly the flamboyant Chad Ochocinco and professional partner Cheryl Burke after receiving 52 out of 60 due in part to his stumbling samba failed to muster up enough NFL votes so went home. In the process Ochocinco did create a minor historical moment as he had the dubious honour of being half of the 100th couple dismissed from the ballroom during the show's 10 seasons.

Rumours about Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke becoming more than just dance partners had circulated ever since the football star bought his pro dancer a diamond ring one week followed by a delicate diamond pendant the next.

But Tuesday's elimination failed to shed any light on the couples relationship as Burke labelled their relationship as a "special friendship that will always mean the world to me." Ochocinco would only say the pairs friendship will "continue for a lifetime." before thanking Burke and the programmes cast, describing his experience on DWSTS as "awesome."

The semifinal elimination results show also included performances from Sarah McLachlan singing a medley of her songs; amateur teams from Rutgers and Utah Valley universities competing in the new college dance championship; while former contestants Joey Fatone and Melissa Rycroft did a tango in costumes picked by the public; and Miley Cyrus, in a leotard and thigh-high boots, sang her new single, "Can't Be Tamed."

The final is now a contest between Nicole Scherzinger, skater Evan Lysacek and sportscaster Erin Andrews who with their respective pro partners will dance for the show's mirrorball trophy on Monday with the new trophy winner and Dancing With The Stars champion crowned on Tuesday.
