“Dancing With the Stars” ended on what many thought was a predictable, note Tuesday night when Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and dance partner Kym Johnson took the 'Mirrored Ball'
After ten weeks of trials, tantrums and twists, inter spaced with rehearsals and eliminations all served up in an array of glittering costumes it came down to a final between Chelsea Kane, Kirstie Alley and Hines Ward along with their professional partners. .
The second and last night of the ballroom finals saw all three of season twelve’s top hopefuls face off with their favourite past routines before host Tom Bergeron announced that Ward was this seasons winner.
The show had Chelsea Kane, and partner Mark Ballas, showcasing flawless version of her memorable “waltz” from week four. The judges loved it and gave the Disney Channel star a full score of thirty.
Kirstie Alley routine saw the sitcom star revisited her first routine of the series — a sharp cha-cha-cha that had earned her first week raves, and to further remind viewers of the original performance she danced in the original dress - but on Tuesday night her same dress had to be altered down to accommodate her much slimmer new shape. Again the judges loved it and gave the actress full points.
Next up was Ward, he and partner Kym Johnson gave the audience another performance of week three's samba. It was fun, though maybe not quite as good as the original but still good. Guess what the judges loved it and gave him a full score of thirty.
So after the nights performances and the finalists separated by five points the judges became irrelevant and it was all down to the public vote.
That was bad news for Chelsea Kane that she was the least known celeb and this was apparent when she was the first to be eliminated following the viewer vote. Then Alley learned her fate when Ward was named the winner.
The victory for Hines also marked an important triumph for Kym Johnson, as she enters the “Dancing” record books tying with Derek Hough’s three-time champion. although one of her previous wins was gained in her native Australia's version of the show.
With Hines Ward’s win out of the way, the ballroom lights were switched off, the judges sent home and the competition closed for the summer. with the “Dancing With The Stars” fans, eagerly anticipating the show’s fall return.
