Dancing With the Stars, The judges have set up an interesting finale this season, although there was no doubt that in their opinion the only winner was Nicole and Derek. But this season it has been impossible to predict the audience and with the scores being so close after Mondays performance the eventual outcome might not be quite as certain.
The first dances on Monday night was titled 'redemption performances' in other words previous attempts by the three stars under-performed. Erin and partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, had the samba to improve on. Erin mastered the samba better on her second try, finishing with two 10s and a 9.
Evan and Anna Trebunskaya were given the Viennese waltz, the judges had complained that their original performance lacked chemistry this time dancing to "Piano Man," the pair did their best ending up just a point behind Erin and Maksim with 28 points.
The judges then gave Nicole and Derek Hough the rumba, hardly challenging but the judges felt that the first time she lacked 'slinky' . Nicole proceeded to do slinky temptress, which had the judges in a lather.
But just to give the others a glimmer of hope Derek in one of his rebellious moods included an illegal lift allowing Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman to subtract a point leaving them with 28 points, tied with Evan and Anna and one point behind Erin and Maksim.
Into the freestyle round, which has a reputation for being the decision-maker.
Erin and Maksim decided that they should try something different a contemporary lyrical number staged around a couch and a bed.
The piece was very well executed but it failed to connect with the judges, they awarded Erin only 26 points, meaning they looked certain to relinquish their first round lead.
Evan and Anna produced an energetic performance to "Footloose." Evan turned in a very polished performance but incredibly the judges hated it. The outcome Evan and Anna received a derisory 24 points leaving them three points behind Erin and Maksim.
Derek and Nicole's freestyle produced a dance that was hip-hop blended with enough ballroom to enable inclusion, as this style was Nicole at her strongest it was no surprise the pair excelled
So despite a dodgy lift which the judges took marks off the pair they scored 27 points, tying them exactly with Erin and Maksim for the evening, three points ahead of Evan and Anna, as the errors kept the finale a competition.
So who will win on Tuesday, clearly it should and probably will be Nicole she's a far better technical dancer than either Erin or Evan, the favourite she maybe but audiences can be fickle.
