Ellen DeGeneres is quieting "American Idol" after just one season while according to reports Jennifer Lopez is negotiating to take over the judging role.
Rumours coming out of the Fox studio's on Thursday say Lopez has all but signed a deal to join the popular singing contest as a judge. The actor/singer/dancer Lopez, who has previously appeared as a mentor on 'American Idol.'
DeGeneres also announced Thursday she is leaving the show after one season, and follows fellow judge Simon Cowell in leaving the show. Fox still have not found a replacement for Cowell.
Cowell left in May to start a new talent show for the network. Those under consideration for his spot, according to reports, are a varied group that includes Steven Tyler and Harry Connick Jr.
Fox will be hoping the new faces on the panel will allow them to reinvent the show for season 10, as it suffers from a fall in ratings, the show has suffered from a drop in the younger viewers. The "American Idol" audience has been gradually aging, and advertisers prefer young adult audiences.
With audition episodes featuring the judging panel set for September ahead of the show's return in January, the pressure is on Fox to announce the new judge panel.
