Tonight will see the first season of Penny Dreadful come to an end in the UK, and with so many mysteries and loose ends waiting to be tied up, just what should we expect to have discovered when all is said and done?
Vanessa spent most of her time possessed by a demonic force in the seventh episode, and seemed to make a deal with the devil, who this time chose to show himself through Ethan, and this really needs to be addressed so we can discover a little more about why Vanessa is 'the chosen one'.
She did however prove useful towards the end of the episode, after being exorcised and having a vision of Mina at the Grand Guignol Theatre.
Venturing out with Ethan, Sir Malcolm, Victor and Sembene to explore the building, they're confronted by some of the worst creatures and wonders of the world yet - will all of them make it out alive, or will we be a character or two short when season two comes around?
Noticeably absent from last week's episode was Dorian Gray, and it'd be a crime if he didn't have some sort of impact in the goings on of the finale. We know he will be present, but in what capacity?
Caliban is sure to also make an appearance, though hopefully he won't be breaking anymore necks in his tirade of hate against his maker, who he's growing tired with in waiting for a bride.
With so much to get through it will be an exhiliarating hour or so of television for sure, and I for one cannot wait to see just what will be left open to explore going forward.
Penny Dreadful concludes tonight at 9pm on Sky Atlantic and Sky Atlantic HD.
